Senior Test Engineer (SC Cleared)

Location: Remote
Rate: £458.24 per day (£61.10 per hour)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Test Engineer to join a major public sector digital transformation programme. This is an opportunity to play a key role in defining and delivering quality assurance strategies across complex, large-scale services, ensuring the highest standards of testing, automation, and non-functional assurance.

Key Responsibilities

• Define, own, and communicate testing strategies aligned with delivery objectives, business risk, and government service standards.
• Select and tailor appropriate testing approaches, including manual, automated, exploratory, and risk-based testing across complex systems and integrations.
• Provide expert guidance on test scope, entry and exit criteria, and quality risks to delivery teams and stakeholders.
• Balance effective quality assurance with the practical demands of agile delivery environments.
• Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of automated testing frameworks.
• Determine where automation provides value while ensuring maintainability and risk-based coverage.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and help improve development feedback cycles.
• Evaluate and recommend testing tools, frameworks, and best practices to enhance delivery effectiveness.
• Plan, build, and execute non-functional testing activities, including:
  • Performance testing
  • Accessibility testing
  • Security testing
  • Resilience testing
  • Interoperability testing
• Collaborate with technical specialists and third-party suppliers to ensure appropriate testing coverage.
• Analyse and communicate testing outcomes in terms of business and user impact, not just technical results.
• Ensure sufficient evidence is available to support informed release and deployment decisions.

Required Skills & Experience

Test Automation

• Strong expertise in JavaScript-based test automation frameworks such as:
  • Playwright
  • Cypress
  • WebdriverIO
• Experience with API testing using:
  • Postman
  • Open-source JavaScript testing libraries and frameworks

Performance Testing

• Hands-on experience with:
  • JMeter
  • K6

DevOps & CI/CD

• Experience integrating automated testing within CI/CD pipelines using:
  • Jenkins
  • AWS
  • Azure DevOps

Source Control

• Advanced GitHub experience, including collaboration and code version management best practices.

Testing Methodologies

• Strong background in exploratory testing techniques with the ability to focus effort on areas of greatest risk.
• Proven experience working within Agile delivery environments.
• Ability to define quality strategy and influence stakeholders at both technical and leadership levels.

Essential Requirements

• Active SC Clearance.
• Experience delivering testing services within large-scale public sector or highly regulated environments.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
