Technical Lead

We’re working with a leading organisation looking to appoint a Tech Lead to play a key role within their technology team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys leading from the front, shaping technical solutions and helping a team deliver high-quality software.

You’ll be working on business-critical applications and microservices, playing a pivotal role in the design, development and ongoing support of solutions used across the organisation. Combining strong full stack engineering experience with technical leadership, you’ll help drive engineering best practice, mentor colleagues and ensure solutions are scalable, reliable and built to last.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a real impact on technical delivery without moving away from hands-on development. You’ll work closely with the Engineering Manager, Product and wider technology teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions, influence architectural decisions and keep day-to-day engineering delivery running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development and delivery of business-critical applications, microservices and user interfaces, remaining hands-on with coding and technical implementation.
• Provide technical leadership across the engineering team, promoting best practice in software design, code quality, testing, automation and maintainability.
• Work closely with the Engineering Manager to support day-to-day delivery, resolve technical challenges and ensure the team continues to deliver effectively.
• Design and develop REST APIs, backend services and modern frontend applications to support business-critical capabilities.
• Take ownership of technical solutions from initial design and architecture through to deployment, production support and continuous improvement.
• Drive engineering standards across code reviews, unit testing, automated testing, CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Mentor and support engineers at different levels, sharing knowledge and helping colleagues develop their technical skills.
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into practical, scalable technical solutions.
• Help manage priorities across multiple workstreams, troubleshoot complex issues and carry out root cause analysis where required.
• Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, scalability and overall engineering efficiency.

Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience as a Tech Lead, Principal Engineer or Senior Software Engineer, with a strong track record of providing technical leadership and guiding engineering teams.
• Experience mentoring and coaching developers, promoting collaboration, sharing knowledge and helping colleagues develop their technical capabilities.
• Strong communication skills, with the confidence to work closely with Engineering Managers, Product teams and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Experience driving engineering best practice across code reviews, software design, testing, CI/CD and Agile delivery, with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, guide technical decisions and take ownership of complex challenges through to resolution.
• A hands-on engineering background with Java, Spring Boot, microservices and modern frontend technologies, alongside experience with cloud platforms and enterprise applications.

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity offering a salary of up to €96,000, plus incredible benefits. The role is based in Galway, working on site from 2027.
