Senior Non-Functional Test Engineer (SC)

£458.24 per day | 6 Month Contract | Active SC Clearance Required

Remote with 2 days per month onsite in London

We’re supporting a major government programme seeking an experienced Non-Functional Test Engineer to take ownership of the NFT strategy, tooling, and delivery across a complex digital estate.

This is a hands-on role focused on performance, accessibility, security, resilience, and interoperability testing, working closely with delivery teams, specialists, and suppliers to ensure confidence in releases and service quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and recommend testing tools, frameworks, and practices across the DEFRA testing community.
• Plan, build and execute non-functional testing activities.
• Deliver testing across performance, accessibility, security, resilience and interoperability requirements.
• Interpret test results and communicate business and user impact to stakeholders.
• Ensure sufficient NFT evidence is produced to support release decisions.
• Work collaboratively with specialist teams and third-party suppliers to deliver appropriate test coverage.
• Apply exploratory testing techniques to target areas of highest risk and greatest business value.
• Support continuous improvement of testing practices, automation capability and test strategy.

Essential Skills

• Strong experience delivering non-functional testing within complex Agile environments.
• Expertise in JavaScript-based automation frameworks including:
  • Playwright
  • WebdriverIO
  • Cypress
• Experience testing APIs using open-source JavaScript frameworks/libraries or Postman.
• Performance and load testing expertise using JMeter or K6.
• Strong experience working with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, AWS and/or Azure DevOps.
• Excellent GitHub knowledge and version control practices.
• Proven ability to analyse and present testing outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience using exploratory testing techniques and risk-based testing approaches.

Contract Details

• £458.24 per day
• Initial 6-month contract
• Remote working
• London attendance required approximately 2 days per month
• Active SC Clearance required
