Senior Backend Developer (Java / AWS)
Rate: £500-£600 per day (Outside IR35)
Location: London (3 days per month onsite)
Duration: Initial 6-month contract
Overview
We’re supporting a financial services client looking for a Senior Backend Developer to help deliver and optimise a suite of cloud-native services. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant involvement in solution design, technical direction, and code quality.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Developing scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot
- Designing and building RESTful APIs and event-driven solutions
- Deploying and maintaining applications within AWS environments
- Contributing to architecture, engineering standards, and best practices
- Supporting CI/CD processes and Infrastructure as Code initiatives
- Participating in code reviews and mentoring other developers
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Java (ideally Java 21+) and Spring Boot
- Proven background building cloud-native applications on AWS
- Experience designing microservices and API-based architectures
- Good understanding of containerisation and cloud deployments
- Exposure to Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK
- Financial services experience would be advantageous
