SC Cleared Service Designer | Central Government | Up to £540 per day | Inside IR35

We are seeking an experienced SC Cleared Service Designer to join a high-profile Central Government programme on an initial 4-month contract.

Working within a multidisciplinary agile team, you will play a key role in designing and improving end-to-end public services, ensuring they meet user needs, business objectives and GDS standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead service design activities across complex digital and business transformation programmes.
• Map and design end-to-end services, identifying pain points, opportunities and improvements.
• Facilitate workshops with stakeholders to understand processes, challenges and user needs.
• Create service blueprints, user journeys and other service design artefacts.
• Collaborate closely with User Researchers, Product Managers, Business Analysts and Delivery Managers.
• Support service teams through Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live phases.
• Ensure services align with GDS standards and user-centred design principles.
• Translate research and operational insights into practical service improvements.
• Present recommendations and service designs to senior stakeholders.

Essential Experience

• Active SC Clearance (current and transferable).
• Proven Service Design experience within Central Government.
• Strong knowledge of GDS standards, the Digital Service Standard and service design methodologies.
• Experience working across Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live phases of delivery.
• Demonstrable experience producing service blueprints, user journeys and ecosystem maps.
• Strong facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts and design decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desirable Experience

• Experience supporting services through GDS assessments.
• Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design principles.
• Experience delivering service design within large-scale digital transformation programmes.
• Understanding of operational processes, policy impacts and organisational change.
