SC Cleared Interaction Designer | Central Government | Up to £540 per day | Inside IR35

We are seeking an experienced SC Cleared Interaction Designer to join a high-profile Central Government programme on an initial 4-month contract.

Working within a multidisciplinary agile team, you will play a key role in designing intuitive, accessible and user-centred digital services that meet both user needs and Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead interaction design activities across complex digital services and transformation programmes.
• Design clear, effective and accessible user journeys, workflows and interfaces.
• Create wireframes, prototypes and interaction patterns to test and communicate design concepts.
• Collaborate closely with User Researchers, Service Designers, Product Managers and Developers.
• Use research insights and data to inform design decisions and improve user outcomes.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of design systems and reusable patterns.
• Support teams through Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live phases of delivery.
• Ensure designs comply with accessibility standards and GDS best practices.
• Present and justify design decisions to stakeholders at all levels.

Essential Experience

• Active SC Clearance (current and transferable).
• Proven Interaction Design experience within Central Government.
• Strong knowledge of GDS standards, the Digital Service Standard and user-centred design principles.
• Experience working across Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live phases.
• Strong experience creating wireframes, prototypes and user flows using tools such as Figma, Adobe XD or similar.
• Good understanding of accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1.
• Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience supporting services through GDS assessments.
• Experience working with Government Design Systems and design pattern libraries.
• Knowledge of front-end technologies and technical constraints.
• Experience delivering interaction design on large-scale digital transformation programmes.
