We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership within a product engineering team delivering business-critical applications and services.

This is a key leadership role, combining hands-on technical expertise with architectural guidance, mentoring, and engineering excellence. You’ll work closely with Product, Architecture and Engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure and resilient solutions while helping shape the technical direction of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and direction across a delivery team.
• Design and deliver scalable, secure and maintainable solutions.
• Drive architectural and engineering decisions aligned to business goals.
• Lead technical risk management, incident resolution and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Champion engineering standards, quality practices and modern development approaches.
• Reduce technical debt and support platform modernisation.
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering technical growth and best practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Product, Engineering and Architecture to deliver successful outcomes.

Essential Experience

• 8+ years’ experience delivering enterprise-scale software solutions.
• Experience as a Principal, Lead or Staff Engineer in complex environments.
• Strong front-end expertise with Angular, TypeScript and RxJS.
• Strong backend development experience using Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices.
• Solid understanding of modern architecture patterns and cloud-native development.
• Experience with AWS, CI/CD pipelines and distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of software quality, security, observability and testing practices.
• Proven ability to influence technical direction and lead engineering teams.

Desirable Experience

• Nx or monorepo environments.
• GitHub Copilot or other AI-assisted development tools.
• Legacy modernisation programmes.
• Enterprise-scale architecture and solution design.
