DevOps Engineer
Location: Bristol/Hybrid
Contract Length: 6 months
Day Rate: Up to £600 a day (Outside IR35)
We’re working with a highly regulated organisation seeking a Systems Operations Engineer to join their infrastructure and platform team. This role will play a key part in driving automation, improving platform reliability, and supporting the ongoing evolution of a modern cloud and Linux-based environment.
You’ll be responsible for maintaining and enhancing critical infrastructure, implementing Infrastructure as Code best practices, and supporting the delivery of secure, scalable platforms. Working closely with engineering teams, you’ll help streamline deployments, improve operational efficiency, and ensure systems remain resilient and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab
- Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Support and enhance Puppet-based configuration management
- Administer and optimise Linux environments, primarily CentOS/RHEL
- Improve automation across infrastructure and operational processes
- Implement and support monitoring, alerting and observability solutions
- Work closely with engineering teams to deliver reliable and secure platforms
- Support incident management, troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Contribute to security, governance and compliance initiatives
- Drive continuous improvement across infrastructure and DevOps practices
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Puppet
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform
- Experience administering and developing GitLab CI/CD pipelines
- Strong Linux administration experience (CentOS, RHEL or similar)
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code and automation solutions
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools
- Scripting experience with Bash and/or Python
- Experience working within a regulated environment, such as Financial Services, Banking, FinTech, Insurance or another highly governed sector
