Application Migration Engineer

Role Summary
The Application Migration Engineer will be responsible for assessing, designing, and delivering the migration of existing services and applications onto the new Common Data Platform (CDP). The role focuses on ensuring migrations are delivered securely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to business operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assess existing services, applications, and supporting infrastructure to identify migration requirements, dependencies, and risks.
  • Design and implement migration strategies that minimise service disruption and technical risk.
  • Develop, test, and deploy application changes required to ensure compatibility with the CDP platform.
  • Refactor legacy applications and components where necessary to improve maintainability, resilience, scalability, and performance.
  • Work closely with Solution Architects and Platform Engineers to ensure services align with CDP standards, architectural principles, and best practices.
  • Support data migration activities, maintaining data integrity, security, and compliance throughout the migration lifecycle.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including solution designs, migration plans, deployment processes, and operational procedures.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues encountered during migration and post-migration support activities.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to operational and support teams.
Required Technical Competencies
  • Proven experience developing, maintaining, and supporting enterprise-grade applications and services.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and modern engineering practices.
  • Experience deploying and supporting applications within cloud environments.
  • Demonstrable experience migrating legacy applications and services to modern cloud-based architectures.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated deployment processes, Git version control, and modern branching strategies.
  • Knowledge of data migration methodologies, including data validation and reconciliation techniques.
  • Understanding of enterprise security principles, governance frameworks, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, containerisation, and cloud-native technologies would be advantageous.
