Lead Data Architect (DV Clearable) – Up to £130,000 + Benefits

UK (Hybrid / Secure Site)
Must be eligible for DV clearance (active SC required to start)

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Lead Data Architect to play a key role in shaping data strategy and delivering complex, high-profile government programmes. You will lead the design and implementation of secure, scalable, cloud-native data architectures, working with cutting-edge technologies across AWS and other modern platforms.

This role combines technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, and hands-on architecture, making it ideal for someone who wants to influence major programmes while mentoring high-performing engineering teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with senior stakeholders to understand requirements and provide strategic direction
  • Design and deliver secure, scalable, and resilient data architectures aligned to business needs
  • Architect and implement cloud-native data solutions across AWS and other platforms
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to cross-functional data teams
  • Define best practices across data architecture, cloud engineering, and security
  • Design and oversee real-time and batch processing solutions, including streaming architectures
  • Ensure compliance with government standards, security policies, and data regulations
  • Monitor delivery against architectural designs and manage any deviations
  • Support pre-sales and bid activity, ensuring solutions are technically sound and competitive
  • Advise on data standards and governance, driving best practice across programmes
  • Stay current with emerging trends in cloud, data architecture, and security

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 6+ years’ experience in data architecture within complex, secure environments
  • Strong experience designing large-scale, cloud-based data platforms
  • Deep expertise in AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, Redshift
  • Proven experience with Apache Flink and real-time streaming architectures
  • Strong background in:
    • Data modelling
    • ETL / ELT processes
    • Data warehousing and distributed systems
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing technical teams
  • Ability to engage with and influence senior stakeholders
  • Experience working in sensitive / security-focused environments
  • Strong understanding of data governance, standards, and architecture frameworks

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Azure or GCP
  • Knowledge of Scala and Apache Spark
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and cloud-native delivery models
  • Experience working alongside cyber security teams on secure systems

Security Requirements

  • Must currently hold SC clearance
  • Must be eligible and willing to obtain DV clearance
