Junior User Researcher

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior User Researcher to join a growing digital consultancy focused on delivering user-centred digital products and services. You’ll become part of a collaborative community of professionals who are passionate about user-centred design, critical thinking, problem solving and creating impactful digital experiences.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your research skills, work alongside experienced practitioners and contribute to meaningful projects that improve experiences for end users.

Key Responsibilities

As a Junior User Researcher, you will:

  • Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, Developers and fellow User Researchers to plan and deliver high-impact research that builds a deeper understanding of users.
  • Support and manage research activities, recommending appropriate research methods based on project needs and priorities.
  • Conduct inclusive research with a diverse range of users, including individuals with additional needs and hard-to-reach audiences.
  • Consider the end-to-end user journey, taking into account business, policy and technical constraints that may influence the user experience.
  • Communicate research findings clearly and effectively to project teams and stakeholders, helping to build empathy and support informed decision-making.
  • Develop your user research capabilities through ongoing coaching, guidance and professional development opportunities.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A strong interest in user research and user-centred design, with a commitment to staying current with industry developments and self-directed learning.
  • Some practical experience conducting user research and an understanding of a range of research methods and when to use them effectively.
  • Experience planning and conducting qualitative research, including remote and face-to-face interviews, observations, diary studies, concept testing and usability testing.
  • Familiarity with quantitative research methods such as surveys and their use in generating actionable insights.
  • Experience using both qualitative and quantitative approaches to uncover meaningful findings and recommendations.
  • An understanding of how to analyse and synthesise research data from multiple sources.
  • Strong communication, storytelling, stakeholder management and facilitation skills.
  • Awareness of Agile ways of working.
  • Experience with, or understanding of, public sector digital service standards and user-centred design principles.
  • Active Security Check (SC) Clearance, or eligibility to obtain SC Clearance.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Previous experience in a professional research or research-focused role.
  • A degree in Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience, or a related discipline.
  • A genuine passion for technology and its potential to improve user experiences.
  • A strong desire to learn and continuously develop new skills.
  • Experience, knowledge or a keen interest in accessibility testing and inclusive design principles.
