Junior Content Designer
About the Role
As a Junior Content Designer, you will join a growing digital design community that shares knowledge, expertise and best practice across a variety of projects. The team is passionate about user-centred design, critical thinking, problem solving and creating effective digital products and services.
In this role, you will develop your understanding of inclusive design throughout the project lifecycle, helping teams create accessible solutions that work for a diverse range of users. You will engage with user research, apply accessibility standards and legislation, and champion inclusive design principles.
This position offers excellent opportunities for learning and career development while working on impactful projects across both public and private sector environments. Hybrid working is available, although occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Create content that meets both user needs and business objectives
- Collaborate with content designers, UX designers and researchers to develop effective digital experiences
- Use a range of research and discovery techniques to understand user needs and translate insights into evidence-based content
- Support a data-driven approach to content design and optimisation
- Simplify complex language, policies and processes into clear, user-friendly content
- Contribute to content design communities through critiques, knowledge sharing and team learning activities
- Help improve internal ways of working and content design processes
- Build expertise in accessible content design and advocate for inclusive digital experiences
- Work within fast-paced, evolving environments using Agile and iterative delivery methods
Skills and Experience
Essential
- A strong interest in user-centred design and collaborative working
- Some professional experience in content creation, style guides and writing for digital channels
- Experience writing inclusive, plain English content
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Awareness of Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards and design principles
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and legislation, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
- Experience working as part of a wider user-centred design team
Desirable
- Experience designing content within sectors such as local government, higher education or similar environments
- Familiarity with collaboration and workshop tools such as Miro, Mural, Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint
- Security Check (SC) clearance
