Data Engineer (DV Clearable) – Up to £140,000 + Benefits

UK (Hybrid / Secure Site)
Must be eligible for DV clearance (active SC required to start)

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join a high-impact programme supporting a UK Government client. You will play a critical role in designing and building a secure, scalable data platform, enabling both batch and real-time data processing using modern commercial and open-source technologies.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on mission-critical systems, solving complex data challenges in a highly secure environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and maintain robust data pipelines for batch and real-time processing
  • Develop solutions to ingest data from multiple sources and transform it into aligned target models
  • Perform logical and physical data modelling to support analytics and operational use cases
  • Enhance and evolve data platform capabilities to meet new business and analytical needs
  • Conduct detailed data analysis to identify improvements and solve processing challenges
  • Ensure consistency and integrity of data models and architecture
  • Carry out root cause analysis across data and pipelines to identify optimisation opportunities
  • Produce high-quality documentation aligned with engineering best practice

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience building data pipelines using modern data processing frameworks
  • Experience working in Agile / iterative delivery environments
  • Solid understanding of data modelling techniques and data structures
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, particularly:
    • EC2, RDS, Lambda, Athena, Glue
  • Expertise in relational and/or NoSQL databases, including performance tuning
  • Proficiency in Python or similar programming/scripting languages
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and automated testing frameworks

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins or Drone
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible or Packer
  • Knowledge of Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux and/or Windows environments

Security Requirements

  • Must currently hold SC clearance
  • Must be eligible and willing to obtain DV clearance
