Data Engineer (Azure – Legacy Migrations)

£450 per day (Inside IR35)
Location: Fully Remote (UK-based)
Duration: 3 months (extensions likely)
Clearance: BPSS eligibility required

The Role

We’re looking for a mid-level Data Engineer to support a series of Azure-based legacy data migration initiatives. You’ll play a key role in modernising data platforms by migrating on-prem or legacy systems into scalable, cloud-native Azure solutions.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone comfortable working across data pipelines, transformation logic, and cloud infrastructure in a delivery-focused environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimise data pipelines within Azure
  • Migrate legacy data platforms to modern Azure-based architectures
  • Work with large, complex datasets ensuring quality, integrity, and performance
  • Collaborate with architects and stakeholders to define migration strategies
  • Implement ETL/ELT processes using Azure-native tooling
  • Troubleshoot and optimise existing data workflows

Core Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer (mid-level)
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure data services (e.g., Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL, Data Lake)
  • Experience delivering legacy-to-cloud migration projects
  • Solid SQL and data modelling skills
  • Experience with ETL/ELT pipeline design and optimisation
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices in data environments

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within the public sector
  • Experience working with NHS data environments or healthcare datasets
  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance frameworks
  • Exposure to Python or Spark for data processing

Additional Information

  • Candidates must be eligible for BPSS clearance
  • Fully remote role, must be UK-based
  • Immediate start preferred
