Data Protection Officer

My client, a financial services provider in Edinburgh are actively looking for a Data Protection Officer to join their team. This role will report directly into the board for anything related to data protection as well as managing a team of 3 and working closely with the wider CISO team. This is a senior leadership role and will require a strategic approach as well as being able to liaise with all areas of the business as and when required.

What you need to do

  • Be the nominated officer for Data Protection and registered with the ICO.
  • Be the point of contact and champion for the customer and colleague in respect to Data protection issues and their data subject rights
  • Ensuring that the Data Protection Policy Standard (DPPS) and the controls and technical standards under it are up to date with applicable data protection/privacy regulations and that these are being met by the Bank and its external Suppliers.
  • Responsible for the management of data protection office function within the Risk department, including being responsible for the personal development and training of the individuals in that team to ensure that the team has the necessary capabilities and capacity.

In addition the following experience and skills are required:-

  • Professional Experience
    • Experience of data protection law
    • Experience managing data protection risks
    • Demonstrable experience working within a 3 Lines of Defence model in the financial services industry
    • Proven track record in a Data Protection/Information Governance role
    • Strong relationship management skills
    • Proven leader and relationship manager across teams and in a matrix management organisation
    • Project management skills in complex multi-functional projects
    • Proven ability to influence at a Senior Management and Executive level
    • Strong awareness of the control environment within a financial services organisation
    • Having a strong awareness and understanding of conduct risk, specifically the delivery of fair customer outcomes
  • Technical Expertise
    • Extensive experience and/or expert legal knowledge of data protection and data privacy law, including experience of liaising with the ICO
    • Extensive experience of working with key control areas like IT, Resilience, Data Management, Information Security and/or Records Management areas
    • Experience and understanding of complex information governance issues
    • Strong awareness of the control environment within a financial services organisation
    • Well versed in risk management frameworks particularly in the financial services industry
    • Extensive up to date knowledge of legal developments in data protection
    • Excellent drafting and communication skills
