Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 per annum + Benefits
Location: UK Wide
Working Pattern: Hybrid / On-site depending on client needs
Security Clearance: SC Clearance or eligible to obtain SC Clearance (UK residency required)

You will join a people-focused digital consultancy delivering user-centred services across the UK public sector. The organisation values collaboration, inclusion, and work-life balance, and actively supports continuous learning and professional development through access to training, modern design tools, and supportive multidisciplinary teams.

The consultancy works closely with government departments and public sector bodies to design and deliver high-quality, accessible digital services. Diversity and inclusion are core values, and hiring decisions are based on skills, experience, and potential. Empowering individuals and building strong teams are central to delivering meaningful outcomes for users.

This role is suitable for UX/UI Designers with experience in public sector environments who are passionate about applying GDS and GOV.UK standards. You will work within agile, multidisciplinary teams alongside researchers, developers, product managers, and stakeholders.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design intuitive, accessible, and user-centred digital interfaces aligned to the GDS Service Manual and GOV.UK Design System.

  • Produce low- and high-fidelity wireframes, visual designs, and interactive prototypes to communicate design ideas effectively.

  • Contribute to user-centred design activities across the full service lifecycle (discovery, alpha, beta, and live).

  • Work closely with UX Researchers to translate user research findings into well-informed design solutions.

  • Collaborate with developers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and meet usability and accessibility standards.

  • Take part in agile ceremonies, design reviews, and stakeholder workshops.

  • Ensure designs meet WCAG accessibility standards and inclusive design best practice.

  • Support the ongoing improvement of design processes, patterns, and documentation.

What You Will Bring to the Team

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions to a range of stakeholders.

  • Demonstrable experience designing digital services within GDS / GOV.UK frameworks.

  • Strong prototyping skills using tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar.

  • A solid understanding of accessibility, usability, and inclusive design principles.

  • Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams, ideally within a consultancy setting.

  • A user-focused, problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple pieces of work and priorities effectively.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience working for a digital or management consultancy.

  • Previous delivery experience within central government, local government, healthcare, or wider public sector organisations.

  • Familiarity with design systems, component libraries, and style guides.

  • Experience working closely with content designers and service designers.

  • Understanding of front-end development constraints and technical feasibility.

  • Experience using collaboration and delivery tools such as Jira and Confluence.
