Service Designer (GDS Experience Required)
- Rate: £440 per day (Inside IR35)
- Duration: 3 months initial, with potential for extension
- Location: Newcastle (on-site once every 2 weeks)
- Security: Must be BPSS eligible
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Service Designer with a strong background in delivering digital services according to Government Digital Service (GDS) standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and improving user-focused services, working closely with stakeholders across multiple teams to ensure services are efficient, accessible, and meet GDS guidelines. This role requires a combination of strategic thinking, user-centered design expertise, and practical delivery skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and iteration of digital and service experiences that meet user needs
- Apply GDS service standards to ensure high-quality, compliant delivery
- Facilitate workshops and co-design sessions with multidisciplinary teams
- Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and product owners to translate service requirements into practical solutions
- Produce clear, compelling documentation and visualizations to communicate design decisions to stakeholders
Essential Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Service Designer, ideally in government or highly regulated sectors
- Strong understanding of GDS principles and experience applying them in real projects
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- BPSS eligibility is mandatory
Desirable Skills:
- Experience supporting digital transformation or modernization programs
- Working knowledge of agile delivery frameworks and cross-functional team collaboration
