Senior User Researcher – NHS – Remote – £560/day (Inside IR35) – 6-Month Contract

We are seeking an experienced Senior User Researcher to lead and align user research activities across multiple NHS teams. This fully remote, 6-month contract role focuses on ensuring user-centred, evidence-based approaches inform the design and delivery of services.

The Role

As a lead practitioner, you will ensure teams embed good user research practice, deliver actionable insights, and maintain high standards of research quality. You will guide strategy, influence stakeholders, and support teams to make evidence-based decisions across complex service environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and align user research programmes across teams to meet organisational goals.

  • Synthesize research findings into strategic insights that inform roadmaps and decision-making.

  • Set, assure, and improve user research standards, including ethics, safeguarding, and accessibility.

  • Advocate for user-centred practices across teams and with sceptical stakeholders.

  • Guide teams on inclusive research, ensuring diverse users are represented and services are accessible.

  • Apply agile research practices, adapting methods to product complexity and influencing team priorities.

  • Lead a community of practice to help the organisation innovate and improve research methods.

  • Manage and influence stakeholder relationships, negotiating and resolving issues to enable progress.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience leading user research programmes at an organisational or multi-team level.

  • Expertise in a wide range of user research methods, including analysis, synthesis, and insight generation.

  • Experience advocating for user-centred, inclusive practices in complex service environments.

  • Ability to set, assure, and improve research quality and standards, including ethical compliance.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, influencing senior teams and resolving competing priorities.

  • Experience working in Agile environments and adapting research approaches to product complexity.

  • Must hold or be eligible for BPSS clearance.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in the NHS or public sector.

  • Experience leading a community of practice or mentoring junior researchers.

  • Familiarity with NHS digital services, standards, and user needs.
