Duration: 12 Months
Rate: £650 per day (Inside IR35 – all reasonable rates considered)
Location: Newcastle or Manchester (predominantly remote with occasional on-site)
Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance required
We are looking for an experienced SC Cleared Oracle Developer to support a major UK Central Government department on a long-term contract. This role is ideal for a specialist with strong expertise in Oracle batch processing, performance tuning, and Pro*C development, operating within secure and highly regulated environments.
The Role
As an Oracle Developer, you will focus on the design, development, optimisation, and support of complex batch processing solutions within a large Oracle estate.
Key responsibilities include:

Designing, developing, and maintaining Oracle batch processing jobs supporting high-volume data workloads

Performance tuning of PL/SQL, SQL, and batch processes to meet stringent service and processing windows

Developing and maintaining Pro*C applications integrated with Oracle databases

Diagnosing and resolving performance bottlenecks and production issues

Working closely with infrastructure, testing, and operational teams to ensure stable deployments

Supporting legacy and modernised systems within a secure central government environment

Ensuring code quality, maintainability, and adherence to development and security standards

Producing clear technical documentation and supporting knowledge transfer
About You
Essential experience:

Active SC Clearance
-
Proven experience as an Oracle Developer on large-scale, enterprise systems

Strong hands-on expertise in Oracle PL/SQL and SQL performance tuning

Demonstrable experience with batch processing frameworks and scheduling

Solid background in Pro*C development

Experience supporting business-critical systems in production environments

Comfortable working in agile or hybrid delivery models

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable:

Experience working within UK Central Government or other highly regulated environments

Knowledge of Unix/Linux scripting to support batch operations

Exposure to modernisation or migration programmes involving Oracle estates
