Lead Data Modeller (Snowflake & Semantic Modelling)
£650-£750 pd Outside IR35
Remote working – Occasional site visits – South West
Working with a leading Financial Services client who are looking for a Lead Data Modeller to act as the strategic hub between the business and data engineering teams.
This role is critical in shaping the future reporting and analytics estate, moving from fragmented, legacy reporting to a consolidated, scalable semantic layer within the data platform. You’ll work across the business to understand reporting pain points, define consistent business logic, and translate requirements into clear specifications for engineering teams.
The role:
- Lead the review of the current reporting estate (Excel, SSRS, Power BI) and advise on consolidation and improvement within the data platform
- Engage directly with senior business stakeholders to understand reporting needs, pain points, and future-state requirements
- Design and own semantic data models in Snowflake, defining consistent metrics and business logic across the organisation
- Act as the owner of data lineage, mapping and managing the journey from chaotic raw files through integration layers to a structured semantic layer
- “Feed down the list” from a data modelling perspective – ensuring upstream changes are correctly reflected downstream in models, metrics, and reports
- Translate business requirements into clear, actionable specifications for data engineering teams
- Drive best practices in data modelling, lineage, and analytics design
Skills/experience:
- Proven experience as a Lead or Senior Data Modeller
- Strong semantic modelling expertise – building business logic layers, not just tables
- Hands-on knowledge of Snowflake
- Deep understanding of data lineage and downstream impact management
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, comfortable interviewing business heads and challenging requirements
- Experience working across legacy reporting tools (Excel, SSRS, Power BI) and modern data platforms
- Able to operate independently, set direction, and bring structure to complex, messy data environments
