Interim Head of Financial Crime Manager / MLRO

6 Month Contract, Inside IR35 - Competitive Day Rate

UK Based - Remote Working

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Financial Crime / MLRO to join our financial services client on an initial 6 month contract.

The successful candidate will provide leadership for the Anti Financial Crime (AFC) & Anti Money Laundering (AML) functions, SME support and oversight as well as contributing to the development and implementation of AFC & AML strategy for the business.


  • Providing leadership for the Anti Financial Crime (AFC) & Anti Money Laundering (AML) functions, including recommendations / appropriate changes to the structure, resource levels and budgets
  • Applying appropriate influence in the regulated capacity of CF17; responsible for compliance with relevant rules, regulations and guidance.
  • Supporting the Head of Risk in delivery of services and deputise for AFC & AML matters in their absence
  • Overseeing the management and review of regulatory developments and industry best practice for AFC & AML, interpret change relevant to the business. Working with relevant business areas, arrange for implementation of change, including via the BAU change control process
  • Ensuring that regulatory & internal reports are both accurate and submitted on time
  • Preparing appropriate responses to regulatory enquiries and information requests
  • Attending & contributing to Risk and Compliance Committee meetings & Board Audit and Compliance Committee meetings
  • Supporting regulatory, strategic and business projects as required


The successful candidate will ideally be available at short notice; have previous experience operating as a Head of Financial Crime / MLRO within financial services and possess in depth knowledge of anti-financial crime and counter terrorism legislation.

  • Relevant Financial Crime Diploma / Qualification and possess significant AML experience within financial services - (ideally Life & Pensions).
  • Excellent knowledge of operational processes
  • Proven ability to undertake complex investigations
  • Detailed knowledge of FCA rules and regulations and a thorough knowledge of regulatory development and consultative process
  • A credible influencer of management, able to propose and implement financial crime prevention solutions
  • Proven ability to manage a specialist team of financial crime professionals
  • Able to build and maintain strong relationships with business partners and clients
  • Able to accept a high level of autonomy & takes responsibility for decision making on regulatory matters
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate business as usual issues, and sound judgement to determine appropriate actions/solution
