Senior Actuarial Manager - IFRS17

Competitive - Day Rate Contract

We have an exciting opportunity for an Senior Actuarial Manager to join our financial services client (UK based) on an initial 9 - 12 Month DRC working on their IFRS17 Programme.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the successful implementation of the new accounting standard working on a large programme delivering fundamental changes to the way in which IFRS results are presented whilst gaining an understanding of the implications for the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Calculating and reviewing Contractual Service Margin (CSM) figures across a range of products with appropriate and agreed controls and providing technical assurance on transition workstream output
  • Across this Transition team will we have people specialise in one of the three transition CSM calculation methods (Full Retrospective Approach, Modified Retrospective Approach, Fair Value Approach)
  • Delivering IFRS17 transition calculations within approved controls and governance framework and supporting papers
  • Key contribution to transition workstream plan aligned to end to end IFRS17 plan, with all dependencies on other workstreams identified and managed
  • Understanding of key IFRS17 decisions being made and how these impact IFRS17 results, particularly relating to the advantages and disadvantages of the three transition methods
  • Regular engagement with key partners to brief on output, judgements, challenges, and scope expectation vs intention
  • Managing control & governance framework and auditor relationships
  • Preparing and presenting documents and papers used to secure approval from IFRS17 governance bodies and external auditors
  • Proactive planning and organisation of team members to ensure main deliverables are met - managing and mentoring more junior members of our team
  • Providing SME support on IFRS17 transition training to the UKL business and other members of the programme

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

This role will require both a strong technical focus and IFRS17 understanding to ensure that the information is fit for purpose, and broader commercial thinking to be able to contribute meaningful and relevant insight and analysis to support the strategic development of the business.

  • Strong technical actuarial skills to create accurate calculation processes within agreed controls framework
  • UK actuarial reporting experience preferred- Financial Reporting, messaging, analysis experience, IFRS17 and SII knowledge and accounting aspects of IFRS (P&L/Income statement constructions)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Management experience either in BAU or projects, people leadership and development of team members
  • Experience of building relationships, managing and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Ability to collaborate with other programme team members and drive delivery to successful outcome
  • Resilience, creativity and flexibility given challenges of implementing a complex, unprecedented new reporting standard
