Get out there
Network, network, network! Whether it’s by joining your local student society or by attending cross-profession networking events, expanding your internal, local and national networks could be the key to accessing potential new clients, business contacts or an exciting career development opportunity.
Identify your personal brand and embrace it. Everyone has a personal brand, a uniqueness that helps you stand out from the crowd - whether or not you’re aware of it. Once you’ve identified what your personal brand is, utilise it to create strong relationships both in and out of work and determine how you can use your strengths, skills, passions and values to send a clear, consistent message about who you are and what you offer. We work in a competitive industry and standing out for the right reasons could give you an advantage.
Find a mentor. Having an independent and experienced mentor can help to provide you with impartial advice and guidance as well as the opportunity to grow your business contacts and develop your personal communication techniques and skills. An informal yet confidential mentoring relationship could help you increase your impact in the business or office environment as well as providing you with insight into your mentor’s successful career and the steps they took to reach their current position.
