Manchester named as one of the best UK tech hubs...
The UK is a thriving tech hub and its no surprise that London dominates this scene. However, regions across the UK have emerged as tech hubs in their own right, with 35% of unicorns created being outside of London, suggesting that tech growth in these regions is set fair for the years to come.
Manchester has been an obvious choice for those who work within the tech sector, with it being rated ‘top tech city’ for employers based on cost of living, access to skills, and high-quality tech education.
We asked Tom Smith, Senior Consultant in our Manchester office to get first-hand insight on what the Manchester tech scene is looking like right now...
"From a Manchester perspective, the city’s tech hub is continuing to grow and lots of enticing companies for tech professionals now have offices in Manchester.
"The overall infrastructure of the city is constantly improving, and it also has had a massive building boom over recent years meaning more accommodation options etc.
"Compared to London the cost of living is much cheaper which has meant more people have taken the decision to move up North. Whether this will change with the increased home working options since the pandemic remains to be seen, as some companies allow people to be fully remote so they can work from anywhere."
One of the key drivers for many multinational software and data companies to locate in Manchester is that the city has a highly skilled graduate population and with almost 6,000 tech companies located here, there is no better time to consider making the move into the Manny tech space.
