Sanderson, in collaboration with Periculum Associates, hosted a round table dinner exploring the balance of culture and talent within FinTech.
FinTech is an industry that continues to flourish and disrupt traditional banking processes; there are almost three times as many UK financial and payment institutions as there were in 2005 and London is now considered to be the world FinTech capital.
Even though there was a downward trend of the number of firms from 2014, their success shows no sign of slowing and almost 1/3 of firms are preparing to launch an IPO in the next five years.
With this growth in mind, it can be no surprise that this sector will undoubtedly experience skills shortages in the coming years. What are the potential solutions to that problem?
On the 14th March, Sanderson, in collaboration with Periculum Associates, a management consultancy, held a round table dinner in order to explore these issues.
The dinner centred on the question of how FinTech and its technology-led transformation presents a new set of risk dynamics to the safety and soundness of financial services. At the heart of this is talent risk.
The talks focused on the talent recruitment, development and risk management aspects of the growing industry. It’s rapid growth is exacerbating the demand for talent across operational disciplines such as technology, operations, finance, risk management and compliance.

It is clear that access to talent will play an increasingly influential role in defining the long-term success of the FinTech industry.
Issues explored included strategies of recruiting and retaining industry leading talent, how to build talent management programmes as well as how to address the talent risks to achieve sustainable product innovation and financial growth.
