Linux Engineer – 3rd Line (With HPC Pathway)
- Location: Stevenage
- Salary: £45,000 – £55,000
- Type – Fully on-site (Security Purposes)
- Clearance: Must hold an active SC OR DV Clearance.
- Must be eligible for DV Clearance (Sole British)
A primary technical partner of the MOD are looking to add to their High Performance Computing team. This role will be Linux Centric and suit an Engineer very comfortable with several Linux Operating Systems, Scripting and a strong customer facing skillset.
It’ll be supporting a dynamic and extremely interesting HPC Environment with lot’s of scope for training and development.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited too):
- Support the dedicated High-Performance Compute elements of the solution
- Application running and benchmarking HPC applications such as Abaqus/LS Dyna/Open Foam/Fluent/SLES Enterprise
Your transferable skills and experience might include:
- Linux administration
- Such as: SuSE or RedHat – any modern Linux distribution admin experience will be considered.
- Cluster management solutions
- Such as: Bright Cluster manager, PXE booting, OpenHPC, Warewulf or Rocks
- Parallel file systems administration
- Such as: Lustre, IBM Spectrum Scale or BeeGFS.
Beneficial technical skills:
- Experience using ormanagingHPC clusters
- Such as: Beowulf, OpenStack or Hadoop
- Experience managing batch scheduling systems
- Such as: PBS Pro, Slurm, SGE/UGE, Microsoft Scheduler
- Experience with scientific or engineering applications
- Such as LSDyna, Altair Hyperworks, Abaqus
- Scripting skills
- Primarily Bash, but any shell scripting along with Python and Perl.
- Shared-memorymultiprocessingAPI support:
- Such as: Intel MPI, OpenMP/MPI and MPICH.
- Storage administration
- Such as: DDN, NetApp, IBM or Dell EMC
- Network administration
- Such as: Mellanox InfiniBand mesh and Ethernet networks
Key Accountabilities
- Technical Capability. Works within a team as a noted expert with a wide range of systems or in-depth product knowledge without supervision helping to define and implement technical best practice.
- Process. Contributes to the definition of operational processes, (both internal and external) and dealing with customer escalated problems.
- Project Work. Leads technical implementation of medium to large infrastructures and technical designs including producing cost and timescale estimates and identifying risks.
- Customer Relations. Establishes working relationships with the customer and relevant operational units, at the appropriate technical and/or management level, to understand the requirements of the customer’s business in order to deliver and enhance the service.
