Automation Test Manager – Cloud Data Platform (Hands-On Role)

Salary: £70,000 – £80,000 FTC

Hybrid: Once a week onsite – Bournemouth

Must have full rights to work in the UK

We’re looking for an experienced Automation Test Manager who thrives in hands-on roles and has a passion for driving quality in complex, cloud-based data environments. This is a unique opportunity to work on a large-scale, greenfield data programme involving Microsoft Fabric and Azure technologies.

What You’ll Be Doing
* Designing and executing a comprehensive testing strategy for data platforms built on Microsoft Fabric.
* Leading QA efforts across agile delivery squads.
* Developing automated tests for:
– PySpark notebooks in Fabric or Databricks
– ETL pipelines and transformation logic
– Delta tables and multi-layered Lakehouse architectures
* Embedding testing into CI/CD flows using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
* Creating reusable, parameter-driven test frameworks for data validation.
* Supporting data governance and compliance across the platform.
* Collaborating with engineers, architects, and DevOps teams to ensure scalable, high-quality data solutions.
* Overseeing test execution, reporting, and environment readiness.

Your Skills & Experience
Must-Haves:
* Background in test management or QA leadership within modern data platforms.
* Strong working knowledge of:
– Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse’s, Pipelines, Notebooks, Power BI)
– Azure tools including ADF, Synapse, Data Lake, and Key Vault
– Databricks or Microsoft Fabric Notebooks using PySpark
* Experience building automation frameworks (e.g., Pytest, Nutter, Great Expectations).
* Familiarity with Medallion Architecture and Delta Lake.
* Skilled in CI/CD integration (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions) and Git version control.
* Comfortable working with various data types – structured, semi-structured, and unstructured.

Nice-to-Haves:
* Understanding of tools like Microsoft Purview, Unity Catalog, or other governance platforms.
* Experience testing Power BI reports or DAX expressions.
* Knowledge of Spark job performance testing or data observability platforms.
